The characteristics of rotary joints


Meccanotecnica Umbra has developed and implemented a specific rotary joint system for CSP (Concentrated Solar Plant); a type of technology that is not new but, until now, it has been unsafe in some cases, especially due to possible diathermic oil leaks. For this reason, MTU has developed a zero-loss rotary joint (patent pending). Nowadays, plants often use molten salt instead of thermal oil, but this solidifies below 240°C. The MTU rotary joint has a patent-pending heating system that avoids this problem. In addition, rotary joints completely avoid this failure by increasing plant reliability with a maintenance-free solution.
