WEEE

The WEEE Directive (2002/96/EC) is designed to prevent and limit the flow of equipment refuse to landfills through the reuse and recycling of equipment and components. To provide incentives for the introduction of environmental considerations in the design phase of products, the Directive charges producers of electrical and electronic equipment for the expense of handling, recovering and disposing of equipment at the end of its life. This Directive was acknowledge in Italian law through Legislative Decree 151/2005, which requires producers of such equipment to establish a national system for the collection, transport and ecological handling of products at the end of their life, financing and managing its operation. It also requires marking and supplying information to users.

Meccanotecnica Umbra S.p.A. As a component producer, Meccanotecnica Umbra SpA does not fall directly within the scope of the WEEE Directive but it has introduced environmental considerations into the design of its products.

ROHS

The RoHS Directive 2002/95/EC, and subsequent additions, restricting the use of lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) in electrical and electronic equipment, was acknowledged in Italian law by Legislative Decree 151/2005.

Meccanotecnica Umbra S.p.A. As a producer of electrical and electronic equipment components, Meccanotecnica Umbra SpA has brought its products into compliance with the RoHS Directive in order to respond promptly to the needs of its customers. REACH

The REACH (Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of CHemicals) Regulation (1906/2006/CE), effective June 1, 2007, concerning the registration, evaluation and authorization of chemicals and the restriction of chemical substances, establishes a European framework for the regulation of all chemical substances on the market. In particular, the Regulation requires the registration of all substances produced or imported into the Union in quantities equal to, or greater than, one ton per year. For producers and importers of substances and preparations (mixtures of two or more substances), registration of the substances involves the obligation to submit basic information about the characteristics of the substances to the European Agency.

Meccanotecnica Umbra S.p.A. wishes to assure its customers that the substances used in the composition of its products conform to the requirements of the REACH Regulation. A declaration of conformity for our products can be obtained by contacting the Quality Management Department.

ATEX

The ATEX Directives (Directive 94/9/EC and Directive 1999/92/EC) regulate, in the entire EU, the release on the market, and the use, of protective devices and systems, whether electric or not, in atmospheres that are potentially explosive due to the presence of inflammable gas, vapor or mist, as well as combustible powders, defining their essential requirements for safety and health. Acknowledged in Italy by Decree of the President of the Republic 126/1998 and Legislative Decree 233/2003, they went into effect in July 2003 and, on June 30, 2006, the extension granted to users to come into compliance also expired. In particular, Directive 94/9/EC regulates producers, requiring them to analyze the specific risks of the equipment sold in order to obtain, from an official control body, certification of their conformity for use in potentially explosive atmospheres, while Directive 1999/92/EC made all end-users responsible for identifying all the work environments were potentially explosive atmospheres could be present or created and the consequent verification that the equipment present there has the minimum requirements listed in the Directive.

Meccanotecnica Umbra S.p.A. makes a series of mechanical seals available to its customers that are certified to conform to the requirements of the ATEX Directives. In addition, literature is available on the use of these seals on equipment meeting the above-mentioned directives.
